The prison to professionals’ program has helped me tremendously as it brought together all the components that will allow me to be successful not only post incarceration, but the program planted the seeds of success. From the helpful tutors to the mentors, it has been an amazing circle of support that I know will be lifelong. It is a reminder of one of my mantras, I am more than my prison sentence! This was exemplified by this program being led by those formerly incarcerated or impacted someway by the carceral system. The leaders of P2P truly understand the challenges we face as they have been in our shoes, and they were all very patient during this process of learning that sometimes felt overwhelming. So many of us are at various stages of our life dealing with challenges in post incarceration and some of us while incarcerated. But the staff of P2P were there to guide us every step of the way. I am eternally grateful. Quote: “Education means emancipation. It means light and liberty. It means the uplifting of the soul of man into the glorious light of truth, the light by which men can only be made free.” Frederick Douglas
